2012 MSEF Open Registration

Online registration for the 2012 Mercer Science and Engineering Fair is now open. Actually it was available this summer but many are just starting their project right now. We have made some minor changes to the registration process. Junior and Senior division students need only the Intel ISEF forms. The MSEF form is only used by Elementary division students and is available to be printed once the registration is complete.

Fall Science Fair Meeting

The Mercer Science and Engineering Fair Fall Science Fair meeting will be on Thursday, Sept. 29 at Villa Victoria Academy at 7pm. Teachers, parents and senior division students (grades 9-12) are invited to attend. We will be answering questions regarding the fair including aspects such as judging and registration in addition to providing an overview of the fair.

MSEF Results, Genius Olympiad and Broadcom Masters

Our top three Senior Disvision winners have the option to compete in the SUNY Oswego Genius Olympiad science fair. Other seniors interested in competing in this fair can submit their projects for consideration as well. We suggest that you do if you have the time. You will have to provide travel to upper New York if you are accepted but room and board are provided.

Want To Be A Judge?

Looking to help out with the Mercer Science and Engineering Fair? We might be able to use your expertise as a judge. If so then send an email note to Bob Bushar, our judge coordinator.

Judges should have at least a bachelors degree and/or work experience in a scientific or engineering field. Judges will judge projects within their area of expertise although it might be wider than you might think.

Online Registration Ready for 2010 Fair

The online registration system for the 2010 Mercer Science and Engineering Fair is now operational. To get started, just sign up for an account and create an application. This can be done BEFORE you start your project. Teachers should also sign up for an account to manage or enter applications for their students. This is a new system and should be easier to use than our older system, so any feedback is welcome. Online help for the registration system is available now.

Who can enter the Mercer Science and Engineering Fair?

Students in grades 4-12 that attend school or are home schooled in Mercer County, NJ can participate in the annual Mercer Science and Engineering Fair (MSEF).

Students in grades 4 and 5 compete in the Elementary Division. Students in grades 6-8 compete in the Junior Division and students in grades 9-12 compete in the Senior Division.

Students in the Senior can compete in only one ISEF affiliated fair in the same academic year. They can compete in MSEF and any non-ISEF affiliated fairs in the same academic year.

How do I do a science fair project?

Glad you asked. We put together My Science Fair Project to answer this question since it is a bit more involved. Essentially you need to come up with an idea, create a research plan, complete some additional forms, perform your experiments, analyse and present your results at the fair. Make sure you check out the rules and complete all the necessary forms including registering for the fair.

Preparing for 2012 Fair

Those who are getting a head start for the 2012 science fair can find download the 2012 ISEF forms now. You will need to post this information online when you register but you need to get many of these forms signed BEFORE you start your experimentation. Note, you can start your research, prepare materials and build hardware you might use in the experiment but you cannot actually start until your application has been signed and approved.
