Call for Judges and Sponsors for the
2005 Mercer Science and Engineering Fair

Press Room

Sept. 21, 2004
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: William Wong
President, MSEC

(Trenton, NJ) -- The Mercer Science and Engineering Club is working to make the 53rd annual 2005 Mercer Science and Engineering Fair a success. For that we need to increase the number of judges and sponsors over previous years due to the expected increase the number participants in this year's fair.

We are looking for judges with a technical background to participate in the one day judging of the Elementary, Junior and Senior Division. Senior Division judges interact with Senior Division participants who present an oral defense of their project.

Our judges help the club maintain a high caliber of winners. Winners from latest year's fair have gone on to win in affiliated fairs. Laura Wong, the Senior Division grand prize winner, took 2nd place in the Computer Science Division an the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair held this year in Portland, OR.

Two of the Junior Division winners, David Sharples of Chapin School and Zachary Papas from James Alexander Elementary School, were semi-finalists in the 2004 Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge. David Sharples has moved on to compete in the finals. Their success is in part due to the quality of judges that selected the winners at the Mercer Science and Engineering Fair.

Persons interested in becoming a judge can contact our Judge Coordinator, Bob Bushar (rbushar@hiltonrealtyco.com). Organizations may also post a call for judges on their website and include a link to the Mercer Science and Engineering Club's website (www.mercersec.org).

Sponsors
Sponsorship is a great opportunity to help the community and to expand the horizons for hundreds of future scientists and engineers. The Mercer Science and Engineering Fair has been successful because of the generosity of our sponsors. It requires money to put on the fair and to send the winners on to affiliated competitions. The changing economic situation has resulted in a change of the sponsors for the fair and we are in need of additional sponsors for the 2005 fair.

Our goal is to get three more Gold Level sponsors this year. If we exceed our goals, we will be able to send more winners to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. Of course, all levels of sponsorship help with the fair.

Please contact us if you or your organization would like to become a sponsor. You can contact the Treasurer, Barry Gould, at (215) 860-2539 or the Fund Raising Chairman, Rich Daugert, at (609) 656-1787.

Sponsors may also provide prizes that target general or specific areas of research. Contact us or check out the club's website for more details.
