Welcome to our first Club newsletter. We are well
on our way for the 2005 Mercer Science and Engineering Fair. Our
newsletter covers information related to the club and fair. A newsletter
archive is located on our website along with a host of over useful
documents and links.
1. MSEF Winner Makes DCYSC Final
Forty
David Sharples, a 7th grader at Chapin School and a winner at the
2004 Mercer Science and Engineering Fair, is part of the "Final
Forty" in the Discovery
Channel Young Scientist Challenge (DCYSC). Check out our website for
the press release. We are
very proud of David's accomplishments and wish him well in this final
competition in Washington, D.C.
We would like to encourage all schools to let their students know
about David's success so they will be encouraged to raise the level of
competition at next year's 53rd annual Mercer Science and Engineering
Fair.
2. MSEF 2005 Training Session A
Success
Our 2005 Training Session went off with plenty of
enthusiasm even though we had a smaller group than the 2005 Kickoff
Meeting. All the presentations
are available online. Teachers that attended got to walk away with robot
and electronic kits donated by our sponsors.
In future sessions, teachers will be able to earn
professional development hours now that we have completed our first
training session.
3. MSEC is now a 501(c)(3)
Organization
The Mercer Science and Engineering Club has always
been intended as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization but it is now
official. We have received our 501(c)(3) letter from the IRS. We are now
actively courting new sponsors for the 2005 Mercer Science and
Engineering Fair.
3. New Members And Sponsors
The Club and Fair are growing. We are looking for
new members and Fair sponsors. Membership and sponsorship details can be
found on the website. Members can not be fair participants or those
associated with a participant such as a parent, teacher or mentor
although you can be on our mailing list. Please contact us if you have
any suggestions for sponsors or if you wish to join the Mercer Science
and Engineering Club or sponsor the Mercer Science and Engineering Fair.
